To hang or to hammôck? Ye, the age old question…
Especially in these challenging times, where many of us have been working from home for months on end, it seems a rebirth to the question I imagine even our grandmothers asked, “Do I need to wear a bra”? But now with the added clause; “ever again”.
I mean where are we really going? If you’re like me and you’ve had the fortunate displeasure of working from home alone… is there even a point of a bra, or even panties at this stage? I mean the video meeting only shows heads and shoulders anyway. And once I’ve put on my perfect statement necklace – who would even guess my new secret ‘no knickers, no pants, brassiereless’ work look.
Trés chic, I know. I mean, I’ve even gone braless to Waitrose. It felt so freeing. By now you’re probably thinking where has this woman been, wearing no bra has been steadily coming back in to trend for at least the past five years or so. However, I’m a big boobed lady, and my reason for wearing a bra 99.9% of the time when out is purely practical. There’s something about having a set of 36GGs barely hovering above your office desk – that just screams hazardous to me! For many reasons, but mainly because I have this irrational fear of a building fire in which I have to run out of the office, and I lose a boob in a manic rush to escape… please don’t judge me.
Anyway, I digress, so it’s never seemed the right time at the office. But at home, wahey! I’ve been living a dream. This bohemian little to no makeup, super casual look has really renewed my love for myself. Wearing the occasional camisole and bralette for a little structure. I’ve relished my leggings now it’s colder, and cycling shorts in the summer – which I wore to death.
So yes, we’ve had our social bubbles, and the odd dinner here (hopefully we can get out again), and there but otherwise we really have to ask ourselves if we need a bra. Especially when they’re are so many alternatives out at the moment. And because we are all letting our breasts ‘hang’ or simply be, which let’s be real – it’s lovely. Say goodbye to that daily routine of flinging off your bra as soon as you get home.
Nevertheless, bras have become part of our womanhood. Whether it’s the choice to wear one or not. Or the seemingly endless choices of styles, and looks once you do decide to wear one. These days, when I have worn a bra, I’ve opted for more decadence. Be that in its colour, the material, the patterns or sheer sex appeal. I’ve definitely felt a resurgence in my once exhibitionist Uni self. Just having a fabulous piece of lingerie, hidden underneath one of the same three tees, I’ve worn continuously.
So just as before, I make the decision to wear a bra on the practical events of the day- but as we aren’t going anywhere, I have rarely chosen to dawn my breasts in one of my obligatory ‘hammôcks’, that I once lived in. But I definitely miss them, and am madly in love with the silhouettes they produce, all the pretty textures, and wondrous scenarios they end up in. I think that’s why when I do wear them it’s that much more special.
So what are you doing today #hang or #hammock?
