Oh gosh where do I begin! I’ve wanted to start this for a really long time. A place where I can celebrate my long love story with my breasts. How we hated each other, and the body that held us, how we used each other, and best of all how we made peace with each other, and became one.
As flowery, and hippie-like as that sounds, it was a real journey. One that I don’t think is uncommon for a girl with a larger chest, but also a story that I felt needed to be told.
I spent so many years loathing my boobs, and all the awkward gawks, and unwarranted comments that came from having breasts at the young age of 8! For years I’ve tried to hide them, then flaunted them to peacock my sexuality, but now I actually love them, and hope that in sharing that story of body confidence through my current body trials, tribulations and triumphs, other little girls and young women won’t hide away like I used to.
The coming to age of a woman, and the understanding of femininity can be so hard, and different for everyone depending on your physical shape, health, wellbeing and social circumstances. That coupled with a world that is continually passing judgement and sentencing with little to no facts – it makes for a harsh reality, with an insensitivity of what it really means to experience womanhood, and how nuanced this can be.
However, I really see value in these differences, in the female body and the experience of its ever changing nature in good and ill health. How we evaluate, celebrate and share those stories is fundamental to the self esteem and confidence of us as women and girls.
I hope you’ll join and share with me in my exploration of the physical self, in particular boobs and the feminine for, and how that fits into current beauty ideals – but more importantly that how it fits with you!
Who you are when no-one’s looking, dancing in your knickers, holding your boobs in the mirror, putting on that sexy piece of lingerie under your unstated T-shirt, or crying on the floor in your work clothes…I want to know it all, and share with you all that I know and what I’m learning. Maybe you can join me, and tell me some of your boob stories too!
Regardless, we’ll have lots of fun, the deeper discovery of us awaits …
